Piltown v De La Salle - Sun 18/10/09

Piltown played host to De La Salle last Sunday morning in the Munster Junior Cup. The two sided met earlier in the league with Piltown running out 3-0 winners. Cup ties are always different and unpredictable as this one proved to be. In a game that flowed from end to end, De La Salle took control early, looked confident and scored first with a shot from the edge of the box. Piltown responded well and played some nice football. Their equaliser was a great effort from Mark O Driscoll. Took the ball down well near the edge of the box and a good strike towards the top corner. De La Salle went in at the break ahead as a striker was left unmarked in the box to head home a cross from wide. Piltown started the second half well. About half way through the second half, Kevin Keegan founds space and directed a cross past the Salle ‘keeper. Extra Time followed. Piltown had a glorious chance to take the lead but David Kelly sliced the ball wide from close range. Early in the second, De La Salle got past the back four of the home side and a shot into the top corner gave them the advantage. Piltown threw everything forward for the last few minutes but eventually ran out of time. A disappointing result for Piltown from an end to end game. Next weekend, on Sunday morning, our 1A’s travel to Southend at 11.00am in the F. A. I. Junior Cup.
